As
we grow up, painful experiences and events are unavoidable. Messages and
rules we learn don’t always fit our needs. Times of transition can
be very stressful and we can find ourselves lacking support and skills
to move forward. Therapy provides an opportunity to talk about the messages
we learn and to process experiences and events that have resulted in being
stuck. Gaining insight and understanding allows individuals to make choices
about moving forward in a life that is full and meaningful. Gaining insight
and understanding allows us to tap into our inherent wisdom and creativity
and to be open to new ideas and possibilities.
I see the therapy relationship
as a team process with the client and therapist working jointly to put
the pieces of the puzzle together. Drawing from many theoretical orientations,
I use what fits best with each individual’s needs. I enjoy humor
and find ways to interject it into the therapy process.
I have worked in the mental health
field for over 40 years providing direct service to clients as well as
supervising individuals and programs. I use a holistic manner that takes into
account the many aspects of one’s life - emotional, social, legal,
sexual and physical.
